What to do if your drinking glasses are never cleaned

It’s seriously frustrating to reach into your cupboard to grab a glass for a nice refreshing drink only to find it’s cloudy and needs a good wash. It’s especially annoying if you’ve already spent time cleaning it, but it just won’t sparkle anymore. Here’s what you can do to ensure your glasses are always sparkling clean with minimal effort.

Time to clean the dishwasher

If you find that your glasses come out of the dishwasher with small pieces on them, then it may be time to clean the dishwasher itself. Make sure you clean the filter about once a mother. Soak it in a solution of half a cup of hot water and half a cup of vinegar. After soaking, scrub the filter with detergent and wash it well.

If you can’t wash, soak

We know that sometimes you’re in a rush and can’t wash your smoothie glass before you have to get out the door. We get it, so if you’re in a situation where you can’t wash it off completely, make sure you at least soak it in water before you go out. Use warm water and soap so that the residue does not stick to the glass, and it will make cleaning and keeping the glasses clean much easier.

Hard water causes water spots

Water stains are caused by mineral deposits, which happen when you have hard water. You can use white vinegar to help once again. Add some to the rinse aid compartment of your dishwasher. If you’re washing by hand, you can add a little vinegar to a dishcloth, wipe away the marks, then wash the glass again with soap and water before drying it with a floured cloth.

Wash unused glasses

We know this is frustrating, but glasses that haven’t been used in a while should be washed. Ideally, every two months, rinse all glasses from your cabinet. Use a tablespoon of vinegar in each glass before hand washing with warm soapy water or putting them in the dishwasher.

Slippy glasses mean too much detergent

If you notice that your glasses are slippery and slimy when washing dishes by hand, then you are using too much soap. You only need a few drops of soap on the sponge. If you used too much soap, you can spray the glasses with a little white vinegar to help break down the detergent.
