What are some of the biggest trends in the bathroom right now?

There’s something about a great bathroom that makes us feel right at home. Maybe that spa-at-home feel that makes us feel at home can be just as luxurious, or that a nice, relaxing bath at the end of the day is the epitome of comfort. Whatever it is, bathroom trends can actually increase the value of your home by up to 5%. Here are some of the most popular bathroom features you may want to add to your home.

Popular fixture: Bidet

While bidets were quite common in other parts of the world, most American homes tend not to have bidet bathrooms. According to Google, searches for bidets reached 1.68 million, probably because they are environmentally friendly as they help reduce the use of toilet paper and tissues. Smart toilets were also a popular search.

Popular style: Scandinavian

This shouldn’t come as much of a surprise, but Scandinavian-style bathrooms topped searches, with online searches up 340% in 2021. Also popular were vintage bathrooms, terrazzo style, spa style and minimalist bathrooms. As fashion comes in cycles, vintage-style pink tiles are back and have seen a 19% increase in popularity.

Popular feature: heated towel rails

Increasing the value of your bathroom (and in turn your home) doesn’t always mean just changing the style. You can add extra features and the latest hot trend is heated towel rails. More popular features include heated floors, the use of light and soft lighting, brass shower screens and bluetooth bathroom lighting.

Popular paint color: Sage

The color of the bathroom walls can play a huge role in the overall feel of the room. The most popular choice lately is sage, which is earthy and gives off a great spa vibe. Second to sage was pistachio, another calming shade of green. Other top colors were pink, emerald and deep red.

The same goes for copper accessories, which have dropped 45% since May 2020. Hot tubs, which were once the plugin, experienced a 17% drop in searches.
